BLOOMINGTON, IN – It was a wonderful scene at WonderLab as longtime resident Norbert, a blue-tongued skink, and the world famous GEICO Gecko publicly announced their engagement.
The event marks the end of an era. For years, Gecko has been dogged by headlines linking him to a string of high-profile romances. A turbulent tryst with a Parisian iguana; a rumored fling with an Indonesian Komodo dragon; and the ill-fated summer of passion with a vivarium model in Dubai. Despite his playboy lifestyle, it was Norbert’s grounded Midwestern demeanor that finally convinced the Gecko to trade bachelorhood for stability.
Norbert, whose blue tongue has delighted Bloomington families for over a decade, was described by handlers as “surprisingly aloof” about the engagement.
“He’s always had his fair share of admirers,” said reptile caretaker Emma Boyle. “But when the Gecko slithered into the picture, there was chemistry you could feel through the glass.”
Witnesses say the Gecko popped the question during feeding time, dropping to one tiny knee as Norbert flicked his tongue in what those in attendance called “an unmistakable yes.”
While details of the wedding remain under wraps, early chatter suggests a small, tasteful ceremony at WonderLab, followed by a honeymoon at an undisclosed desert terrarium.
“I’ve lived fast, I’ve loved hard, and I’ve shed more than a few skins along the way,” said Gecko, pausing before gazing at Norbert on his beloved heat lamp. “But at the end of the day, it turns out the only place I wanted to settle down was right here in Indiana.”
