BLOOMINGTON, IN – The IU Board of Trustees approved yet another round of cuts to academic degree and certificate programs. This time, scaling back to just one area of study.

Effective July of 2025, the Trustees voted to cut or consolidate nearly 400 degree programs. The slashed programs represented around one-fifth of all academic offerings. University President Pamela Whitten was quick to blame the current political climate and a law set to go into effect that targeted low enrollment degrees.

“Think of these cuts as more trimming the fat than the wholesale limitation of academic curiosity and pursuit,” stated President Whitten. “The Governor and leaders in the State Legislature were clear: This new law will make higher education as unappealing as humanly possible.”

Now, in an unexpected and utterly shocking move, Whitten and the Trustees announced additional cuts. This time, leaving current and prospective students with only one degree program.

Effective immediately, all Indiana University campuses will only confer a degree in Rugged Individualism.

“It’s high time we end liberal indoctrination on our college campuses,” declared Indiana Governor Mike Braun. “Everything from the reverse racism of toxic DEI programs to the glorification of loser dudes in girls’ locker rooms is the result of hippy dippy professors waxing nonsense from the comfort of their overpaid, tenured, unjustifiably exalted positions that really only require the ability to bullshit a few days a week.”

The drastic move is expected to save the university $20 million dollars over the next five years.

After passing the aptly named “One Degree Decree,” the Trustees voted to award President Whitten with a five-year extension and a $20 million dollar bonus.
