BLOOMINGTON, IN – In a bold cost-cutting move, the Monroe County Humane Society announced this week that all future adoptions will be processed through Facebook Marketplace.
Officials say the change reflects a modern approach to animal placement and a desire to meet the community where they already scroll.
“We tried Petfinder. We tried our own website. But let’s be honest,” said interim director Casey Mullins, standing in front of a stack of empty litter boxes. “Everyone in this town is already on Marketplace hunting for used patio furniture. Why not slide a schnauzer in there?”
The outcry from locals has been constant and unrelenting.
“Are you kidding me,??” said resident Carly Vanguard. “These animals deserve the personal touch of a prospective owner, not the transactional nature of Marketplace.”
