ENGLEWOOD, CO – He was a weight loss icon, now he sits in a federal prison. Jared Fogle longs for the days when he was a grotesquely overweight nobody.
Jared Fogle was a household name when Subway mounted an advertising campaign that credited a daily diet of their subs with getting him from morbidly, disgustingly obese to normal American chubby.
Fogle now sits in federal prison after being convicted of numerous child sex crimes in 2015.
“Fogle was an interesting case,” said US Attorney Ryne Means. “To the public, he was a shining example of what dedication and cold cut combos can do for the unforgivably fat. But in private, he was a monster who focused that signature insatiable hunger on exploiting kids.”
If not for his sub-based diet journey, Fogle believes he would just be that Bloomington guy who never left the couch in his garbage-laden apartment, urinating and defecating in a 5 gallon bucket.
“It all went downhill when Subway made me famous,” said Fogle. “I truly think without the fame I would just be the invisible hog molly who loved delivery meals and loathed bathing.”
Fogle is set to remain incarcerated until at least 2029.
