BLOOMINGTON, IN – IU professor and prolific cigarette smoker will allow students to smoke so long as there is enough to share.

History professor Samuel Felt has a unique classroom policy. His classroom is not a ‘no smoking’ environment if the student asking also brought more for other smokers.

“I don’t want to be here any more than they do,” said Felt. “If we can keep our focus and share some smokes, it works out for everyone.”

The University has a no smoking policy, however Felt is tenured and has no fear of being terminated.

“Professor Felt can be a real character,” said IU History Chair Dionne Lawrence. “While it is true that you can’t smoke on campus, his tenure and reputation in academia don’t really permit us to impose discipline.”

The students seem to be divided on the policy.

“It’s gross,” said Heidi Grange. “If this class wasn’t required for my major, there’s no way I’d be here.”

The smokers of course enjoy the policy, while the vapers are fairly indifferent.

“I love his class,” said smoker Ryan Jones. “I’m always bringing extra packs for the professor.”

Professor Felt fully intends to continue smoking in class and it seems likely he will not be stopped.
