BLOOMINGTON, IN – 20th Century Fox announced a surprise sequel to the 1979 coming-of-age classic ‘Breaking Away’ that prominently featured Bloomington and Indiana University.

In a stunning move, the studio has cast Randy Quaid in the lead role. Dennis Quaid, Randy’s brother, starred in the original film and garnered ample praise for his portrayal of a working-class quarry dweller.

“Casting Randy is a gamble, but the Quaid brand is now inextricably linked to the ‘Breaking Away’ identity,” said studio executive Brad Clark. “The idea is that Dennis’ character ‘Mike’ is killed in a tragic quarry accident and the family suspects foul play. Randy’s character methodically tracks down the killers and the movie culminates with raw, bloody revenge. Think Cousin Eddie meets Liam Neeson.”

Randy Quaid is attempting a Hollywood comeback after years of odd behavior and controversy. In 2010, Randy and his wife were charged with felony vandalism and attempted to flee to Canada. They were stopped at the border and arrested. The charges were eventually dropped.

“Look, I got a bad rap,” said Quaid. “Once I started calling the government out for hiding alien bodies and saying John Kennedy, Jr. is still alive, which he is, the deep state did their best to bury me.”

The film will begin shooting in Bloomington in Spring of 2024. Indiana University and City officials have already begun contingency planning under the operational name of “Hurricane Randy.”
